How to read a Coleman model number
York, Coleman and Luxaire are Johnson Controls brands that share model numbers, and the Bosch and older Nordyne mobile-home furnaces are covered here too. In the York-group tables, the cabinet letter plus the blower size digits pick the filter row.
York group: older T- and Y-prefix families
Brands: York, Coleman, Luxaire, Fraser-Johnston, Champion (T-prefix models are shared across JCI brands; Y=York-only, C=Coleman, L=Luxaire for YP9C/CP9C/LP9C).
Families covered: TM9V, TM8V/TMLV, TM9E, TM9Y, TM9X, TM9T, TM9M, TM8X/TMLX, TM8E/TMLE, TM8T/TMLT, TM8Y, TG8S/TGLS, TG9S, TP9C, YP9C, TL9E.
Example: TM9V080C16MP12C
| Characters | What they mean |
|---|---|
| 1-4 | family (T=tri-brand/York, M or G = series, 8/9 = 80% / 90%+ AFUE, L in 3rd position = low-NOx 80% version e.g. TMLX, TGLS; last letter = generation/motor type e.g. V variable speed, E standard ECM, X, Y, T, M modulating, C (P9C) modulating) |
| 5-7 | input in thousands of Btu/h (040 = 40,000; 080 = 80,000) |
| 8 | cabinet letter: A = 14.5 in, B = 17.5 in, C = 21 in, D = 24.5 in wide |
| 9-10 | nominal blower CFM in hundreds (08 = 800, 10 = 1000, 12 = 1200, 16 = 1600, 20 = 2000, 22 = 2200) |
| 11-12 | MP = multi-position |
| Rest | revision digits / letters (11, 12, 13, C), vary |
How it connects to the filter: Filter tables are keyed by nominal CFM + cabinet letter, so characters 8-10 select the row.
Where this comes from: York TM9V Technical Guide 5425616-YTG-E-0122, page 2 (Cabinet and duct dimensions table: TM9V080C16MP12C | 1600 | C | 21); York TG8S Technical Guide 363657-YTG-H-0616, page 2 (TG(8,L)S... lists TG8S and TGLS; TG(8,L)S080C22MP11 | 2200 | C | 21); York TM9X/TG8S/TM8X installation manuals (theacoutlet copies), page 9 (Table 3 Cabinet and Duct Dimensions: A=14 1/2, B=17 1/2, C=21, D=24 1/2).
Known exceptions:
- TM9E060A10MP12: tech guide dims table says 1200 CFM, IOM says 1000 CFM for 60k/A (filter row is the same either way)
- TM9X040A12MP11 appears once in a blower table of the TM9X tech guide; dimension/rating tables say TM9X040A10MP11 (treated as typo)

These share parts of the numbering system with Coleman, so they can help with an older or rebadged label.
